Roller Derby 101
Welcome to the Roller Derby World!
Are you ready for the ride of your life? Join us on an adventure that will have you feeling wild and free as you learn the ins and outs of roller derby. From skills and drills to speed and agility, each practice session has something new to offer. Plus, at the end of each month we will assess your footwork skills to determine if you’re ready for team drafts, scrimmage nights and recreational home games – now that’s something to get excited about!
We offer two main programs – Monday 7pm-9pm and Wednesday 7pm-9pm. During Monday’s program, we focus on teaching roller derby basics such as proper skating form, strategies for game play and more. We also spend time working on speed and agility drills so that you can become a faster, more agile skater. On Wednesday evenings, we dive deeper into the sport with a skills & drills session followed by an opportunity to watch real scrimmages and ask questions about the game.
The best part of our program is without a doubt our fantastic coaches who are dedicated to helping everyone reach their maximum potential as a roller derby athlete. Our coaches have years of experience in both playing roller derby themselves as well as instructing others in this amazing sport. They are here to answer any questions you may have along your journey so don’t be afraid to speak up!

South Side Roller Derby is Texas only Banked Track and Flat Track Roller Derby League. South Side is 1 of only 8 roller derby league in the worldwide to include banked track play. South Side aims to make banked & flat track roller derby accessible while promoting women’s sports and fitness for adults and teens.

All our skaters come from very diverse backgrounds and professions. We are all life long members because we love the sport and all the love and support of women's roller derby.
Most of our members sign up for a beginner class not knowing what kind of love for the sport they'll have. We like to call it the derby virus! It's contagious! The culture of women supporting each other and pushing your self to be better is what derby love is.
Each member of South Side Roller Derby joins for a different reason, i.e., get fit, feel more confidant, make friends, what every it may be, the modality is roller derby.
Therefor we have developed the best step by step training program to get you to your happy derby place.
