What got you interested in Roller Derby?
I worked at sonic for many years as a skating carhop when I was younger and I fell in love with skating. I would skate rain or shine, on my off days, after work etc. One might say I became addicted at a young age to skating (; One thing about working at Sonic that prepared me for Derby were the customers who hit me with their cars while racing through the parking lot so I learned to get hit by a car before I got hit by some fierce Derby girls. I also would say I got the speed from trying to dodge cars as well. So I had a little advantage when I first started.
What do you do when you aren’t skating?!
I work at Capital Title and I am also a Real Estate Agent so between work and Derby there isn’t much I do that doesn’t involve skating…I wouldn’t have it any other way (:
What other interest do you have?
I love to read, binge watch my favorite shows until I forget I have legs with a goblet of wine in my hand, hang out with my best mate(aka my fantastic puppy who is my world), and anyone who knows me knows that I have a serious obsession with Harry Potter. I really enjoy wildlife so any chance I get to travel or go on an adventure to meet these beautiful creatures I take it!
Tell us about your family (fur babies included).
I have one baby, her name is Iris. She’s a beautiful German Shepherd mutt(half perfection/half amazing). I rescued her 12 minutes from euthanization but in reality she saved me. Adopt don’t shop!
Have you always been athletic?
Hmmm… I’ve always tried to be athletic but I wouldn’t say I was truly an athlete until I joined Roller Derby. I played soccer as a kid growing up, average player and never really that good. So I made me happy to finally find a sport that fit my personality and that got me motivated to work harder to become a better player(mainly so I didn’t get my ass kicked on the track).
What ways has roller derby changed your life, if any?
Roller Derby has turned my life completely around. I only started a year ago and I don’t know how I ever survived without it. They always say the people with the biggest smiles are the ones who feel the most pain. That was the case with me. I used to have what I would call dark days because I was fighting a major depression before Derby. Some days I couldn’t get out of bed, convinced there was no point of living. I couldn’t stand any form of light, I pushed everyone who loved me away because I couldn’t figure out how to ask for help or why I even felt that way. I was having one of those days when I came across Southside Roller Derby’s beginner boot camp that said the new class started the next day. That was the day I decided to make a true change in my life. I was a victor, not a victim. I was no longer going to let my depression control me to a point where I was paralyzed. So I put in those rink skates, got my ass in the floor and worked for what I wanted. These girls make you motivated to be more that what life tells you have to be, to push yourself out of your comfort zone and help you finally be truly happy to be yourself. I have never felt more at home and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. (Unless it’s Iris of course).
Would you recommend roller derby to any one?
I would recommend every person I know to get involved in the roller derby community. We are truly a family. You don’t have to skate to join us either, you can ref, help with game days, setting up the track, come drinking with us…endless possibilities !

What is an interesting fact about you, favorite Netflix series & guilty pleasure.
